2008 Course Curriculum ...
Classes meet once a week and run continually through the academic year. Our small class size and individualized instruction allows you to join at any time. High quality art supplies are provided with each class.
Our projects are richly balanced in the elements of art with inspirations gathered from a wide range of sources. We also integrate appropriate academic curriculum relevant to the projects. Students may participate in any class that is appropriate for their interest and skill level. Age is not a pre-requisite for any class, but a starting point.
Pre-School Monart
Ages 3-4 (1 hour)
A class for 3 and 4 year olds that encourages visual perception and eye hand coordination skills. Students will learn the visual recognition of the 5 Elements of Shape and how to use them in the recognition of the Alphabet, the Numbering system, the Drawing of their own name, and simplistic drawings of creatures from nature. Games that incorporate the use of crafts, music, and movement will teach proficiency in following directions and achieving pre-drawing and reading readiness skills. .
Getting Ready
Ages 3-5 (1 hour)
An introduction to representational drawing. Children learn to recognize the elements of shape and combine them in drawing animals, still life, natural forms and more.
Basic Monart I
Ages 5.5-7(1 hour)
Students learn representational drawing through elements of shape and progress into more complex projects. Learn to draw from the animal kingdom, three-dimensional objects, illustrations and your imagination.
Basic Monart II
Ages 7-9 (1 hour)
A guided drawing class designed for older beginners. Starting with Monart basics, learn to draw from the animal kingdom, three-dimensional objects, illustrations and your imagination.
Drawing Fundamentals
8-12 Years Old
An introduction to representational drawing geared to the attention span and motor coordination of an 8 to 12 year old. Students will learn the Elements of Shape and how to use them in creating drawings from a variety of realistic, abstract, and expressionistic styles. Lessons will introduce them to inspirations from 2Dimensional graphic materials, 3Dimensional objects, the human form, perspective, and proportion.Media: Graphite pencil, Chalk Pastel, Oil Pastel, Markers, Colored Pencil, and Water Color.
Intermediate Monart
Ages 10+ (2 hours)
A mixed media drawing class for older students who already have confidence in their drawing skills. Projects include human form, still life, the animal kingdom and more. Students are encouraged to develop their own style while they learn art concepts and improve their drawing skills.
Advanced Monart
Ages 10+ (2 hours)
A fine arts class for students who are aware of the basic drawing skills and hold confidence in their own drawing skills. Students are encouraged to work independently to develop their own creative approach. Advanced drawing and painting techniques will be taught and portfolio development skills will be introduced. Join us and take your skills in shading and perspective to the next level.
Adults & Teens
Ages 14+ (2 hours)
For students at all levels of experienced and confidence. Find your creative expression as you explore different subjects, techniques and media in a relaxed and non-judgmental environment. Students develop drawing skills and their own creative approaches to subjects.
Homeschool
Ages 7+ (1.5 hours)
Make our internationally recognized art program a part of your curriculum! Lessons are designed to teach fine arts skills while integrating academic content in the subject areas of Cultural & Environmental Studies, and Science & Art History. Homeschool discount available.
Art - Beginning Spanish
Ages K-6 (1.5 hours)
A class for students of all levels. This class will provide an introduction to elements of color and other Spanish art terms.
